What I'm doing now

This page answers the question “What are you up to these days?”
Exploring software malleability with Claude Code
I’ve been thinking for years about how software quality affects us (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). I recently saw a possible way out, and I became obsessed. I originally thought this as a new business venture, but I’ve recently realized I’m much happier doing it just for my close friends and family. If it works there, we’ll see. Since Claude Code got good at programming (~Nov 2025), I’m enjoying having him build self-hosted clones of various software products.
Reading a lot about biology
My current intellectual obsession is computational biology, especially Michael Levin’s bioelectricity work on morphogenesis, and Nick Lane’s theories on eukaryogenesis and the origin of life in alkaline hydrothermal vents. I’m studying cell biology, biochemistry, and reading many great biology books. Fascinating stuff.
Boutique real-estate development
As part of a diversification effort, I’ve been studying more traditional investments. I’m currently focused on real estate: the physical component is a welcome change from my mostly-digital career. I’m learning by doing, reading books, and studying Chad Carson’s materials. All my current projects are small (boutique?) commercial real estate ground-up developments in Uruguay. I’m very much enjoying the slow pace, deal analysis, and design->construction workflow.
Learning to write
I’m writing almost every day, determined to improve as much as possible over the next 10 years. Reading a lot and paying attention to what works is helping. I’ve done a few great workshops with Diego Paszkowski and Cecilia Gomez Rosati, Argentine writing coaches. My long-term goal is to write a sci-fi novel that’s worth reading.
Investing in early-stage tech at BUZHI
With Martin, an old friend, we’re helping ambitious (and younger) entrepreneurs build technology. We focus more on explorative initiatives than clear business cases. My goal with BUZHI is to stay in touch with tech founders, which I find very energizing.
I wish more people had a “now” page like this one.
